Tuesday Tunes: November 26

Let us give thanks, dearest campers! It is November 26, and that means Tuesday Tunes have arrived yet again. Fear not the inclement weather - we have some beautiful new tracks to shield you from snow, rain, and a sunless winter’s pain. Regardless of how you’re spending the pilgrim’s holiday, we hope the songs we’ve picked serve as a brief respite and reprieve from the quagmire of traffic and grocery store runs we call Thanksgiving. We sure as hell hope it works for us. Enjoy!

Neon Indian’s “Toyota Man” is a funky, psych-electro bop sure to bring out the Latin lovers in all of us. The track transported me to a Oaxacan car wash in the retro-futuristic year 3000. Bright Spanish vocals carry you through energetic, smile-inducing synth melodies replete with laser sounds and Steely Dan-esque riffs. With the new season of Narcos: Mexico coming up, y’all better believe I’m goin’ full Rafa Quintero mode with this track as my new theme song

Earl Sweatshirt’s “MTOMB” (from his new project, Feet of Clay) is an abstract poem shrouded in moodily murky instrumentation that the rapper glides over effortlessly. The beat is half-Clams Casino and half-Dilla; a perfect canvas for the thought-provoking, raw bars Earl lays on the track. The verse goes deep without trading authenticity for pretension; it’s as though Earl is having a casual conversation with a friend. Play this track on a cloudy day to take a short, insightful peek into Sweatshirt’s brain.
