Culture Wars Debut New EP

This week, Austin based rock group Culture Wars debuted their new EP in front of family and friends at Pershing over on Austin’s Eastside. Mood lights washed the room in soft glow as the crowd buzzed in anticipation, ready to taste some new tunes.

After Austin’s Charles Mxxn warmed up the crowd with some ambient house music, frontman Alex Dugan led the four piece on stage to showcase their new stuff. Haze and lasers created a saturated, red mood as the group tore through their selection of songs with dynamic emotional gravity; one song would send the crowd dancing in hopeful happiness until the next drove head-banging heartbreak through the room.

Besides Dugan and the drummer, the other two band members each play multi-instrumental stands, seamlessly switching from bass and guitar to pads and keys. That back and forth allowed for thoughtful-if-poppy arrangements to permeate and brighten each theme, letting the tracks breath while weaving added depth and complexity behind the emotional anarchy flowing from the front man.

The EP won’t be out until later this spring, but keep your ears open and head on a swivel - Culture Wars is back with more, soon.
