Tuesday Tunes: August 27

Taco Tuesday? Tequila Tuesday? Tuesday Toothache? No. On Tuesdays we bring you tunes. This week’s tracks have a distinctly calm, end-of-the night feel to them. Pop ‘em on your speakers, watch the sun set on summer ‘19, and reminisce about the times (both good and bad).

Jay Som’s track, “Nighttime Drive”, is a calming, laid-back indie-folk jam found on her new homemade album, Anak Ko . Som’s voice gives the instrumental a layer of vibe that’s sweeter than a cool milk tea in the humid dog days.  The title fits perfectly, as this song is paired best with a slow ride home through the early morning hours.

“Sugar” is one of the major highlights of Brockhampton’s new album, Ginger. A semi detuned acoustic guitar melody and a simple drum pattern comprise the bulk of the instrumental. This simplicity provides the perfect backdrop for the vocalists’ lyrics to stand out. The opening hook is catchy-as-can-be, and the verses have etched themselves into my head after only a few listens. This wavey-trap love song is going to be one of the group’s most relevant all-time hits. You heard it here first.
