Nervous : Sam Franklin
Sam Franklin popped back on the radar the other day, gifting the world with some new music. “Nervous” finds the quirky Austin crooner sing-splaining awkward crush interactions over tightly-produced, lullaby-style ukulele and keys with clean, trappy drums. SPOILER ALERT - Sam deviates his sound in delightfully dance-friendly fashion towards the back side of the track. Our own Rob Hogan caught up with Sam to talk about his new release. Check it out their conversation below:

Rob Hogan: Sam, tell us a few words about your new song, Nervous.
Sam Franklin: So nervous is kind of a melting pot of a lot of different vibes. It starts out very accoustinc. The chorus is kind of a drop-out: it takes the beat away and focuses on falsetto, just kind of letting that melody reign. It brings it in for another heavier verse and then ends up in another soft chorus to big dance break. I wanted the whole song to definitely feel and play out like a movie or some kind of experience to take you to this end part where your’e dancing and having fun. But you definitely went through this love story kind of just leading into this big dance break at the end.
RH: How do you feel like Nervous is different from your other releases and how do you feel like you grew producing this song?
SF: It’s definitely the most complex, at least as far as production with all of the tracks and recording accoustic instruments and layering them with synths in a way that’s very polished. It’s clean mix of the piano, and then also this Ukulele is what the main instrument is, combined with synths and strings at the end to hopefully feel natural and connected but definitely a two sided approach with bigger hip-hop drums, a big heavy sub bass and then acoustic and piano elements as well.

RH: Who should enjoy this song?
SF: I think everybody should enjoy this song but especially perhaps the youth. If you have some crush or love experience, someone you’re thinking about, and you can relate to the element of feeling nervous even when just looking at them. It should be enjoyable to those who want to dance and move around and have a good time.
